Are You Really You ?
I met Liz the other day and as if she hasn’t seen me for years, she goes like “Hey, Haven’t seen you for a long time, dude !” while we apparently had a talk a few weeks ago. I just gave her a sly smile and said “Me neither. I haven’t seen myself for a while either.” And she said “You better find yourself real soon !” Everyone in the room were laughing their asses off. First it’s meant to be a joke, and no wonder they think it’s funny.
But jokes are funny because they’re somehow true. I couldn’t stop thinking about it on my way home. Where am I ? Why am I here ? If today was 5-10 years ago I would have been still in a club taking one or two pills, dancing with a gal I don’t even care what her name was, or drowning in a bath tub, laying down on a parking lot, thinking that everyday is sunday (not just in Bali) and so on and so on.
And now. I’m mature ? NO. It’s not the answer. I believe it isn’t.
To be honest, I actually miss them. The times when I still could talk whatever I want. I still could do whatever I feel like doing it. But time has changed. And so has I. Too many things have changed me. I’ve been ‘trained’ to be polite, ‘exercised’ to be nice, ‘taught’ to be politically correct in saying or doing things, ’skilled’ to behave myself, and ‘practised’ to become someone else but me.
I miss the real me. The old me. The way I used to talk to people and then their eyes would have been popped out from their skulls just for the sake of hearing it. The way I used to curse people without any hesitation. The way I could wear anything I want without having to follow the dress code. The way I could rip my exam test and walk out of the classroom not care enough about its result.
For people who still have yourselves, how do you do it ? Please tell me.
Please do.

Killing Time
Again, I went out for some movies today. It happens to be tuesday, which on tuesdays certain theatres nationwide offer very cheap tickets; 50 cents for a movie ! My headache’s gone after enjoying “RV” and “The Wild”. Yup, yup I know. RV just got released a few weeks ago for regular ticket price and now I got it almost for free. That’s also one of the reasons why I went there.
Anyway, there are several things I learnt on the spot :
- If you go there on tuesdays, make sure you come early because people know where to find cheap things. Unlike “The Devil Wears Prada” that I had watched a few weeks ago at a regular theatre where it was only 5 people there, I got to line up for around 10 minutes. Plus watching a movie while you’re squeezed by a fat woman next to you is quiet bothersome.
- If you’re a naturally-born cheater, confide yourself to freely enter it because there’s a big chance that no one will ask for the tickets. I just thought about it but I’ve already got the tickets. May be next time. And that’s IF I don’t remember the phrase ‘against the law’.
- For men only : If you’re a kids (and young moms) lover, this is the best time for you to approach them. Unintentionally I had a chat with a cute young single mom after being nice with her kid. Most of them really need our attention, guys. As the result of course, I got her phone number.
- Don’t expect too much from a 50 cents/ticket movie. Trash is everywhere and sometimes a stoopid cellphone rang during the movie. It happened to me and its owner didn’t pick it up after ringing for +/- 15 seconds ! If I had a popcorn I would have thrown him with some. Lucky him I got a juicy hotdog in my hand.
